How to become a Certified
South Carolina Barbeque Judge!

South Carolinians are naturally good judges of barbeque because only South Carolina, of all the nation’s states, regularly cooks and serves all four types of barbeque – light tomato-base, vinegar and pepper, mustard-based and tomato-based.  But being a Certified South Carolina Barbeque Judge is something else again!

The South Carolina Barbeque Association is giving classes in how to become a certified judge.  The standards in South Carolina are, just as you would expect, a little more demanding than those set by other barbeque associations.

Requirements For Judges

In South Carolina you can become a Certified South Carolina Barbeque Judge when you join the South Carolina Barbeque Association, complete a daylong seminar and have judged in four different public barbeque cook-offs.

The organizers of the dozens of cook-offs around our state are always looking for qualified judges.  More and more they are looking to the SCBA to help recommend judges for their events.

When you join the SCBA you will be referred to the organizers of various barbeque cook-offs around the state to help judge their events.  When you have successfully judged in four of these events, plus completed the seminar, the South Carolina Barbeque Association will recognize you as a Certified South Carolina Barbeque Judge.

In addition to all of the fun you are going to have, when you become a Certified Judge you will receive a hand lettered Certificate and an apron with the words "SCBA Certified Judge".

You can join in with dozens of your fellow South Carolinians in enjoying the most quintessentially Southern cuisine in existence and the one that South Carolinians do best!
